Connections
Point of entry: if your international flight lands in Kuala Lumpur or Penang before LGK, immigration is usually completed at the first Malaysian port of entry, subject to the airline and Immigration.
Bags: check whether luggage is checked through to LGK. If you must collect and re-check, allow time for immigration and security.
Domestic sector: KL–Langkawi is a Malaysian domestic flight; keep ID on you. Tide and weather matter more for boats than for most flights.
Buffer: leave a real connection window. Do not treat the shortest legal connection as the plan.
MDAC: what it is and how to file
The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) is an electronic arrival form, not a visa. The official channel is free. Paid third-party “filing” sites are not official.
Most foreign visitors must submit MDAC before entering Malaysia. Use only the Immigration portal: https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac/main. Windows and exemptions change — follow that page.
When: typically within about 3 days (72 hours) before arrival; earlier submissions are often rejected.
What: passport details, flight or transport, arrival date, port of entry and stay in Malaysia, matching your travel document.
Proof: use the official PIN/email flow, then save the QR confirmation (offline copy on your phone, print if you want a backup).
At the border: airline or immigration staff may ask to see it. It does not replace a visa, passport validity or other entry conditions.
Each entry: file again as required. Do not reuse an old trip’s confirmation.
SIM and staying reachable
Get working data soon after landing: local SIM / eSIM at the airport or in town, or confirm your roaming plan. Coverage dips in some outdoor spots, so download the meeting point, emergency contacts and an offline map. We do not name carriers or quote pack prices; pick coverage and validity that match your dates.
Personal kit
Passport validity and blank pages, visa if needed, tickets and stay details, MDAC confirmation.
Sun protection, mosquito protection, a light rain layer, water shoes or sandals, quick-dry clothing; a spare set for sea days.
Personal medicines in original packaging; enough drinking water for outdoor days.
Plug adaptor and power bank; a dry bag or zip pouch for the phone.
